Hypatia was a brilliant mind lived in the Roman Egypt, a mathematician, philosopher, astronomer...the first notable woman in science. She had such a tragic end: on political pressure some Christian monks killed her - blamed her for religious turmoil...stripped her naked and dragged her through the streets to a church, where she was brutally killed, teared to pieces. Some reports suggest she was flayed with potshards and set ablaze while still alive, though other accounts suggest those actions happened after her death. Wooa, poor girl :((
